This is going to be hilarious. Republicans are going to read the whole Constitution on the floor of the House. Because, I don’t know, they have time to kill from all the non-governing they’ll be doing.
More problematic, however, is the pervasiveness of Constitution fetish. Let’s not kid ourselves; it’s the foundational document of our nation. But since Marbury v. Madison, it’s been clear that the document itself is up to interpretation. In addition, many guarantees and rights that we take for granted are not in the Constitution (the Civil Rights Act, a statute, bars restaurants from discriminating against people for their race, not the Constitution). Where is the Federal Reserve in the Constitution? Where is the EPA? Where is the Air Force?
Reading the Constitution will not somehow bring us back to first principles. The republic has evolved so dramatically in its operation and in its interpretation of the document and its clauses that a plain-text reading is just opaque.
