General Patraeus has spoken out against a small Florida church that is planning to commemorate 9/11 by burning the Quran. The hateful actions of a small and unimportant group is something I usually try to ignore. But leaving aside the issue of how Patraeus’ warning is rooted in concern for violence against US troops, and the wisdom of them going ahead full speed with their plans anyway, something else struck me. This is how these people commemorate 9/11. Now, I don’t do anything special to commemorate the day myself, but instead of burning the Quran, I thought I would head over the the New Yorker archive page of past cover art. There have been plenty of amazing covers in the magazine’s history (obligatory shout-out), but some of their 9/11 anniversary covers stand out.
